  4. I don't think I've ever seen bourbon roses before. The Honorine de Brabant rose is stunning!

  6. Thank you, Donna. I took it by accident and just happened to release the shutter when it took off :). Often photos like this turn out the best...

FlowerLady, I wish you could come. Maybe one day...

RR, thank you, and same to you!

GirlSprout, bourbons are heat-loving roses usually... They are fragrant and rebloom.

Corina, I wish it too :)

  7. (I'll take two of each (rose, not the bird, which is regal!). I so love the bourbon roses... but then, I love most old world roses!

  9. Aaah, it is so nice to spot Honorine de Brabant again, a rose that I was growing on a balcony many years ago in Germany. I am surprised to see a bloom of Variegata di Bologna. Is she re-blooming? How is your Variegata di Bologna doing? I am even more surprised by the picture of Persian Light, never heard of this rose before, ever! What a beautiful unusual yellow rose it is! The San Jose Heritage Rose Garden seem to be a place where endless rose discoveries can be made. You are so lucky to live close by! Thanks for sharing these treasures!

  11. Christina,

Good catch about VdiB. They say it does rebloom although I have asked a few people and they all said theirs never did. There were quite a few blooms on the Heritage plant, so apparently it does rebloom :). I got rid of mine because mine had mildew and heavy rust at the same time - it was cool really to have these leaves that were pure white and orange (and very little green). Persian Light is one of a series of hybrid hulthemias, they are all called Persian something. They all have brightly colored single flowers with a different color eye in the center.

Thank you Sherry. I am glad to hear from you.

  12. Whatever roses look like they are always beautiful, even the dried petals are useful potpouri. However, i love most those with variegated petals, havent seen them often in nurseries.

  16. Andrea, do you mean striped? Some of them are really really good. The ones with a different color edge are called picoteed, and can be really pretty...

Diane, thank you. I am glad you liked them.

Beth, thank you. I have roses blooming most of the time, except late January and all of February :). Spring and fall are the best times for roses around here.

P3chandan, thank you for the compliments.

  23. Hello Masha !
    Laurence

  24. Pam, thank you. I loved that bird picture, but it didn't fit anywhere, but I posted it anyway:)

    Sandra, thank you.

Laurence, merci. Anna Scharsach is a beautiful rose with good rebloom for a hybrid perpetual. I am glad you liked it. I have heard lots of good things about Honorine de Brabant, I hope to see pictures of yours on your blog.

  25. Masha, I'm around old roses online catalogues in these days, writing lists and more lists of what I like and where I could plant it, passing by your blog is kind of painful :) Alberto.

  26. Alberto, I am sorry... At least these roses don't reach out from the screen and grab you with thorny arms :).
