Photo Therapy

We have had so much to deal with in the past month I felt as if I were buried under an avalanche. So today, after a long break, I decided to go to the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, just to look at some roses and take some pictures.

No analyzing disease resistance, or vigor, or the quality of late autumn blooms (no bush shots either), just a nice slow walk through the garden looking at the gentle light falling on petals.

 As I walked among the roses, I was thinking about Oscar Wilde who wrote that there is hope for those "to whom beautiful things mean only beauty".

So I tried to find beauty in beautiful things. Maybe there is hope for me :).

    I am not sure what to make of the quote. It seems like a very narrow observation, "beautiful things mean only beauty", like beautiful things should mean much more. Well anyway, you certainly captured beauty in the beautiful things. Lovely roses and hips.

    Photo Therapy. Hmmm... How true. I usually talk about Pet Therapy. Your captures are always amazing. I like your berry shot. It looks as if there are many invisible ones.

    OK, seriously, I think I'm going to have to visit your blog constantly this winter. Because it is just so beautiful and hopeful. And I don't like winter. So, thank you for providing something I can look forward to in the months ahead. Sigh... :)

    I did the exact same thing the other week when I was feeling overwhelmed ... I have Hollywood Cemetery about an hour from here. An afternoon spent in that beautiful setting with my camera, and I came home in a much better mood. I hope your trip to the garden did the same for you.

    One of the things I love about OPG (other people's gardens) is the fact that you can just look at the pretty, and indeed, not have to notice the powdery mildew, or the blackspot or the fact that it needs to be pruned or...

    I love roses! Thank you for taking these gorgeous photos. My favorite is the white Carriere rose with that beautiful blue sky in the background, a nice contrast. I'm so happy to see my Julia Child Floribunda still blooming, even though it's in the 30's at night here in the Pacific Northwest. She always hangs on a long time.
